Workshop “OMICS & Structural Biology of viral infections: tightening the control of re-emerging infectious diseases”

With special emphasis in Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya viruses

- Virion structure, 3D structure of viral proteins, membrane fusion and inhibitors, mechanism of antibody neutralization, cell receptors, virus entry, drug design, inhibition of non-structural proteins

- Technologies for OMICS data generation

- Integrative OMICS and Big data analysis.

- System Biology based bioinformatics software development: Network Biology, Gene-protein-drug-diseases networks.

Post-meeting course "Quality control in molecular diagnostics"

Target audience: Beginners to Advanced qPCR users

Entrance qualifications: Basic experience in Omics Reserach

Description: This course will give you the tools in how to do proper quality control of your qPCR assays to be used in molecular diagnostics. It will describe which controls that is needed, how they should be performed and the statistics on how to do the evaluations.

The course contains:

Introduction to statistics for qPCR

- Principles of statistics

- Which type of statistics is suitable for qPCR?

- Gaussian distribution, mean, standard deviation, confidence intervals

Absolute quantification and standard curves

- What is a standard curve?

- What type of standard material should be used?

- What does linear regression mean?

- How are the calculations performed?

qPCR assay validation

- How to validate a qPCR assay, which factors are important?

- How to calculate Limit of Detection

- How to calculate Limit of Quantification

Accuracy and precision

- How is accuracy tested?

- How is precision tested?

- Reference materials and standards

- Which controls should be included?

Hands-on lab analyzing efficiency, repeatability, LOD and LOQ for a qPCR assay. Quantity of unknown samples are determined by standard curve analysis. Demonstration of how the software GenEx easily can be used for calculations of the parameters.

Professor in charge of the course:

Dr Kubista is the head of the department of gene expression at the institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and founder and CEO of the TATAA Biocenter (www.tataa.com). He was one of the pioneers contributing to the development of quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and introduced qPCR for single cell expression profiling. He led the development of reagents for high throughput single cell expression profiling and quality control at TATAA. He also developed qPCR tomography for intracellular expression profiling. Kubista co-authored the Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative. Real-Time PCR Experiments (MIQE) guidelines, was partner of the SPIDIA project, and is member of the CEN and ISO workgroups drafting the forthcoming guidelines on pre-analytics.



OMICS 2017 will be held from October 28th to October 31st, 2017 at the Meliá Marina Varadero hotel, Cuba.
